Beauty is more important than impact
Harmony is more important than intensity
~Terry Theise

No one man has introduced Americans to more great wines than Terry Theise of Terry Theise Estate Selections. Terry Theise has shaken up the American wine scene since he introduced the market to fine German Rieslings in the mid-1980s – followed by Austrian wines and grower Champagne. While we won't have Terry Theise at the tasting, we will sample several of the wines and tell their stories!

In Germany, Riesling is the King of Wines. We will sample several Rieslings ranging from sweet dessert wines to dry food friendly wines. We will also taste wines from other red and white grape varieties including, Spätburgunder, Blaufränkisch, Gewürztraminer and more. In Austria, the aromatic white wine, Grüner Veltliner rules and the easy drinking Blauer Zweigelt is the leading red wine grape.

German wine differs from wines of other countries ... it is light, lively and fruity, thanks to Germany's unique climatic and geological conditions. The diversity of German wine stems from the many soil types and grape varieties. There is no "uniform" type or style of German wine and this diversity is reflected in Germany's 13 wine-growing regions.

The vineyards in Austria lie in the east and southeast of the country. Amongst the wines produced here, white wines unquestionably make up the larger portion – cultivated in 70% of the vineyards. Nevertheless, red wine has come to represent 30% of the vineyards in recent years.

An informal and educational food and wine event for everyone interested in expanding their knowledge and love of fine wines. We will cover some basic topics relating to wine appreciation. Taste and compare wines from around the world. This is the perfect place for wine beginners to learn about wine and why it can be a life long, enjoyable experience. Experienced wine lovers can also benefit by using this evening to brush up on their wine knowledge and tasting skills. There is always something to learn about wine.

The Beanery Cafe will serve an assortment of appetizers with the wines. All wines are served in Riedel stemware. No product purchase is required. You do not have to be a member of the Northern Lights Wine Club to attend any wine event at the Beanery Cafe.
